Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Yvonne Alston
Founder/Principal, Indelible Impressions Consulting, LLC

What is it like to walk in the shoes of individuals who are blind, obese, scarred, or have a different color skin than your own? How often do we talk about or understand the impact of privilege, namely white privilege? Have you ever been followed by a security officer at an upscale store knowing that they think you may steal? One encounter with Yvonne Alston is an eye opener to these and other realities which are rarely discussed.

These topics are the tip of the iceberg yet are front and center nationally at this time of civic unrest. Through her consulting work, Yvonne’s passion and purpose are to help organizations, both profit and non-profit, leave their own indelible impression on their workforce and society. She strongly believes that being inclusive and creating a culture of belonging brings out the best in all individuals. As Yvonne states, inclusion boosts innovation, increases team/community, cohesion, escalates productivity, and ultimately strengthens an organization’s workforce and bottom line.

Yvonne helps individuals uncover their biases, so they don’t miss out on living a life enhanced by experiencing and embracing diverse cultures. For organizations, she helps advance cultural awareness, facilitates open and practical conversations, leads teams to greater understanding and embraces the importance of cultivating a diverse workforce. Consider taking Harvard’s Implicit Association Test (IAT) which measures strength of association between concepts (e.g. black/gay individuals) stereotypes *(athletic/clumsy), etc. Google IAT to learn more about the exercise and your own biases.

To aid organizations in messaging their DEI core values and mission, Yvonne helps develop and amplify the “soul” of their brand. Her goal is to help drive awareness with targeted messages that resonate with all and creates authentic connections with audiences to make and leave an enduring impression.

As a black woman, she has experienced and understands first-hand the impacts of workplace and community racism, misogyny and bigotry. With over 20 years experience working with organizations to identify gaps and opportunities, Yvonne tailors solutions to help companies be more authentic and for employees to become their most successful, whole, and happy version of self.

Yvonne’s message is clear ”We are at our best when all voices are heard and valued, and when everyone has the opportunity to contribute their diverse perspective and talents to the mission at hand. That’s where we think broader and do better.”

Are you willing to reach out and spark a conversation with someone you may never get to know? The time is now. Set an intention; have that discussion. The outcome may surprise you.
